Spirited finish to British Superbikes season for Christian Iddon as his team bows out

‘I will work hard to try and find a way to remain on the grid’

Christian Iddon ended the 2026 British Superbike campaign with an 11th, 9th and 8th place finish respectively in what was to be, unexpectedly, his last race for the Sencat team.

They will not compete in 2027, leaving the Buxton rider with the task of finding a new seat.

Iddon started the weekend at Brands Hatch in fine form and progressed directly to Q2 but suffered an engine failure after just one lap in qualifying which saw him start in 15th for the first of three races.

In the first he made good progress and drizzle started to fall which played into his strength as he powered towards the front but just as he got on the back of the lead group the red flag flew due to the conditions and the result was declared.

In the Sunday Sprint race Iddon put on one of his strongest showings of the year with a very fast and consistent pace but with the field so tight and competitive that pace didn't reflect in a result as he crossed the line in 9th.

For the final race the heavens had opened.

Iddon looked strong and moved from 11th quickly to 5th and began trying to close down the leaders but he made a small mistake and left the circuit. He re-joined in 10th and eventually made his way back to 8th to round out the season.

Christian said: “We have had a strong weekend, perhaps one of our strongest of the season, but in a way that wasn't reflected in the results.

"Blowing an engine at a crucial time in qualifying was less than ideal and if I'd started a few rows higher who knows what more I could have done. For sure the drizzle helped me because I did not have the outright pace but it was a shame not to capitalise on the conditions when they suited me.

"We made a big step for the sprint race in my opinion. I felt like I was riding the bike well and that it was working well and I maintained a really strong pace throughout as I understood ways to optimise the package.

"The in the final race obviously we got conditions we are not used to this year. It's only the second time I've ridden the bike in the wet and in truth it worked great but I just struggled on corner entry.

“I tried to push past it as I felt a podium was on the cards but it bit me and I nearly crashed and took to the grass. I re-grouped as best I could to finish with maximum effort."

Iddon finished 11th in the final standings.

He added: "As it has been far from how I expected, I am proud of giving it my 100 per cent throughout the year and I want to thank the team for doing the same.

"Obviously with the team announcing they are leaving the championship it leaves me without a seat. I will work hard to try and find a way to remain on the grid but options are very limited so we will have to see.

"I want to thank the team, my family, sponsors and supporters for their unwavering support throughout the season."

Another Derbyshire rider, Leon Haslam, had a consistent weeekend, finishing 4th, 4th and 6th to secure fifth spot in the final stands.
