Plans for year-long water festival in Buxton in 2027

A new year-long festival celebrating Buxton’s waters, its history, heritage and science and all it does for the town is planned for next year.

Buxton Our Street will be holding a ‘cultural gathering’ on Thursday August, 27 6pm at the Pump Room to discuss what is next for the town.

A spokesperson from the group said: “While Buxton was not selected for Town of Culture 2028, the conversations, partnerships and ambitions that emerged through the process remain incredibly valuable.

“This informal social gathering is open to anyone interested in supporting culture, heritage, creativity and community life in Buxton.”

At the meeting plans for the Buxton Water Festival 2027 will be discussed.

Buxton Our Street said: “The Buxton Water Festival 2027 is a year-long town-wide celebration of water that brings together heritage, creativity, wellbeing, science, nature and community through a programme of events, performances, learning experiences and cultural activities inspired by Buxton's internationally significant waters.

“The proposed festival closely aligns with the vision, values and strategic objectives of the High Peak Culture Strategy 2026–2031. “Through a year-long programme directly supports the Strategy's ambitions.”

At the meeting there will be a chance for residents to share ideas for activities and events that could become part of the year-long festival programme, meet potential partners and collaborators and help shape the festival's identity and brand.

The Festival will also be launching a community logo competition to help ‘champion creativity created by people, not AI’.

Buxton Our Street is a cultural consortium made up of representatives from the town’s creative industries and groups including Buxton Crescent Heritage Trust, Buxton International Festival, Buxton Opera House, Buxton Festival Fringe, Babbling Vagabonds Theatre Company and REC Youth Theatre, together with a Community Engagement steering group comprised of Vision Buxton, Buxton Town Team, Buxton Civic Association, Connex: Street by Street and Buxton Central Ward.

Together Our Street aims to deepen the sense of connection to and pride in the town centre for all Buxtonians.

Speaking about the festival a spokesperson for Our Street added: “Whether you're an artist, organisation, volunteer, business, educator, performer, environmental group or simply someone who cares about Buxton, we'd love to hear your ideas.”
