Mountain Rescue called to Dovedale for third time in a month

The team aided East Midlands Ambulance Service after the 48-year-old injured her ankle whilst descending Thorpe Cloud in Dovedale yesterday afternoon (Tuesday June 2).

After having visited the top of the popular hill, the party was making their descent when the woman slipped within 20 meters from the bottom.

An EMAS ambulance crew was first on scene and provided initial treatment. Twelve mountain rescue volunteers attend and evacuated the casualty from the rocky ground where she had fallen.

A rope system was set up to allow a specialist stretcher to be used to lower her to the ground.

She was then carried across the River Dove, whose water level had risen significantly due to the recent excessive rainfall, and put into a road ambulance for transport to the Royal Derby Hospital.

A team spokesman said: “As we get into summer, our number of callouts does tend to rise and this has now started to happen over the last month or so.

“This is the third time we’ve been called to Thorpe Cloud and Dovedale in the last few weeks and we expect the trend to continue over the coming months. Luckily, our volunteers are very experienced in dealing with incidents in this location so we can easily cope with the increased demand.”
