WORLD OF SPORT: Team Sky delight at Froome’s TDF win, Manchester United sign up new ‘keeper, Hamilton rues Hungarian GP showing

The latest sport headlines from around the world:

Sir Dave Brailsford described Chris Froome’s victory in the 2015 Tour de France as the best of Team Sky’s three triumphs at the race so far.

Froome safely negotiated a weather-affected 21st stage into Paris to seal a 1min 12sec win over runner-up Nairo Quintana on Sunday.

Sir Bradley Wiggins handed Team Sky their first yellow jersey in 2012 and Froome made it two in a row in 2013, but team principal Brailsford was most proud of this year’s performance. (Sky Sports)

Manchester United have paved the way for the departures of Victor Valdes and Anders Lindegaard by completing a free transfer deal for Argentina goalkeeper Sergio Romero.

Romero, 28, could make his United debut against Paris Saint-Germain in Chicago on Wednesday after signing a three-year contract, with the option of a further year, on Sunday. (Telegraph)

Lewis Hamilton accepted the blame for the errors that led to him finishing sixth in Sunday’s Hungarian Grand Prix.

The world champion made a bad start, ran off the road on the first lap and later damaged his car in a collision with Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo.

Hamilton said: “I was all over the place. I really don’t have any words to describe what happened.” (BBC Sport)

Record-breaking paceman Jimmy Anderson claims he simply has to forget his Lord’s misery and play a leading role in helping Alastair Cook’s team bounce back by smashing Australia in the third Investec Ashes Test.

Anderson also laid it on the line to his team-mates by claiming the side “must be more consistent” if they want to be considered world class. (Daily Star)

England’s Danny Willett shot a five-under par 65 to win his third European Tour title in the Omega European Masters in Switzerland.

The 27-year-old Sheffield golfer, who finished in a tie for sixth at the Open last Monday, secured his first European Tour victory since his triumph at the Nedbank Golf Challenge in South Africa in December. (Express)
