Buxton boss Jordan Broadbent dishes out the praise after tough win at Chorley

Bucks boss Jordan Broadbent praised the battling qualities of his side following the 3-2 weekend win at Chorley.

The plucky visitors dug deep in difficult conditions to seal a useful three points in their push for the National League North play-offs.

Buxton manager Jordan Broadbent was delighted with his side's battling win at the weekend.

“It was a battle that we won,” said Broadbent. “If you come here and outfight Chorley then you have a chance of winning the game and we did that.

“Every single player on the pitch was outstanding in terms of their application.

“It is a heavy pitch and not a pretty match, but we won the battle, all credit to the boys.

“We had to make a lot of different tactical tweaks, I think we had five players playing out of position for the last 20-25 minutes of the game, but needs must. Every player played their part today.”

The Bucks started well and came close to opening the scoring when Tony Weston went close from distance in the 26th minute.

But they did open the scoring nine minutes before half-time when Sisa Tuntulwana tapped home from close-range

That strike was the first of three goals in just eight minutes with Chorley equalising minutes later through Mike Calveley’s header.

Buxton re-took the lead on 43 minutes when 'Sammy' Robinson diverted Tuntulwana’s long throw low into Kieran Burton's path for the skipper to bag his fourth goal of the season.

The opening quarter of the second half saw Chorley create a few openings, but the visitors' rearguard held firm.

And they made that resilience count when Johnny Johnston doubled their advantage after he pounced on a rebound after Devlan Moses hit the bar on 63 minutes.

Chorley set up a tense finish when Adam Blakeman took advantage of an error by Logan Stretch with three minutes to go.

Buxton were in action at home to Harborough Town on Tuesday night in a match played after the Advertiser went to press.
