“Contributions can often go unnoticed so it’s really important that we recognise their achievements and the value they add to society and everyday life”

The annual awards, organised by High Peak Community and Voluntary Support (CVS), recognise and reward community groups that have made a real difference through their work, services and activities over the past 12 months.

The winner will scoop a cash prize of £750, while the runners up will receive £250 (2nd place) and £100 (3rd place).

High Peak CVS provides voluntary groups and organisations with the support and advice they need to function and flourish while, in turn, addressing the needs of our community.

The awards, which have been supported by High Peak Borough Council, are open to both new and long-established groups of all sizes who can either nominate themselves or be proposed by others.

Ross Burnage, Chief Executive of High Peak CVS, said: “Across the High Peak, countless groups and volunteers quietly go above and beyond every day, making a real difference in our community.

“The Crompton & Woodcock Awards were created to shine a light on High Peak voluntary and community organisations, recognising the invaluable contribution they make and ensuring they receive the recognition they so richly deserve.

“The prize fund for this year’s awards has once again been boosted massively by a generous donation of £1,000 from the High Peak Borough Council – so there’s every reason to get your nomination in.”

Last year's overall winner was Whitfield Together, which owns and operates the Whitfield Community Centre, in Glossop, which aims to create a welcoming and inclusive environment that fosters social connections, strengthens the community spirit and inspires creativity.

Runners up were The Grapevine Centre, a Buxton-based mental health charity, and Dove Holes Sandwich and Soup, Coffee and Conversation Group.

Councillor Anthony Mckeown, Leader of High Peak Borough Council, said: “Local volunteers and voluntary groups make a massive contribution to communities across the High Peak so we are delighted to support this award and formally recognise the fantastic work groups and individuals do every day.

“Their contributions can often go unnoticed so it’s really important that we recognise their achievements and the value they add to society and everyday life. So don’t be shy, put your nominations in and let’s celebrate our local heroes.”

Established in memory of former High Peak CVS Chairs Mike Crompton and Chris Woodcock, the awards will be judged by a small panel of experts.

Nominations must be submitted by Friday, October 30st, 2026. For more information, go to https://highpeakcvs.org.uk/nominations-open-for-high-peak-cvss-crompton-woodcock-awards-2026
