New owner of 100 year old chippy in New Mills
A chef with 20 years of experience has taken over a century-old chip shop and restaurant in New Mills.
The Master Fryer on Albion Road has been a chip shop for more than 100 years and at the end of September new owner Chris Marks took over the reigns.
He said: “I’ve cooked other people’s food, followed other people’s menu concepts for decades. I wanted to be the person making the decisions so when I saw the chippy come up I knew this was my chance.”
Chris picked up the keys in mid July and says it has been a tough slog redecorating and making the place feel different.

“I wanted it to look and feel different so we can start our own journey going forward.”
The chip shop has a take away side and a restaurant side which is fully licensed.
Chris said: “I want to create restaurant food you can take away, not just take away food you can sit in with.”
For Chris this means expanding the menu and offering themed evenings such as burger nights as well as steak night and he is looking to do roast dinners as well.

“I know coming to a chippy for a roast dinner might not be everyone’s first choice but I will be doing the classics and doing them well and I want my food to speak for itself.”
Chris from Furness Vale was previously the chef at the Little Mill in Rowath.
He said: “This is my chance to be my own boss , it’s a change of pace for us but I’m so looking forward to it.”
On the menu at the Master Fryer is haddock as well as butcher’s sausages and home made pies.

Chris said: “We offer great food and we want to get to know the regulars and become part of the community so pop in and say hi and have a portion of chips and a chat.”
The Master Fryer is open Tuesday, Thursday Friday and Saturday 12-7.30pm and Wednesday 12-3pm.
