A Buxton man who only ever wanted to be in farming is now learning about life in front of a camera as he is appearing on ITV’s Fletchers Family Farm.

Viewers of the show may recognise farm hand Josh Phillips who went to Buxton Community School.

The 23-year-old caught up with the Buxton Advertiser to talk about the show.

He said: “It was strange at first having all these cameras around but I’ve got to know everyone and the crew are good craic and now it’s just part of my job and you get on with everything like normal.”

Fletcher’s Family Farm is a reality TV series following Kelvin Fletcher from Emmerdale fame, his wife Liz, and their family as they manage life and farming on their Cheshire property.

They used to have a livery which Josh was involved with.

After getting to know Kelvin he was offered a job as farm hand and he started the week filming for season four began.

Josh said: “I love farm work. It's so rewarding and it’s all I have ever wanted to do.

“I grew up helping out on my nan and grandad’s farm and after school did my Dart apprenticeship.

“I like being outside, working with my hands and doing something practical and taking care of the animals.

Speaking about his role on the hit ITV show he said: “Every day is so different, one day you’re with the sheep, the next it;s dry enough to do crop work, then you're with the cows or pigs.

“It’s always changing but it's something where you can see your hard work paying off.

“I can do something today and then in three months I see the crops coming up and that’s because of the hard work I have put in to get there.” Josh says anything which gets people talking about farming and the struggles the industry is facing is a good thing.

He added: “People need to see where their food comes from, and learn about how difficult it can be sometimes so I think Fletcher’s Family Farm is doing a great job of making more people aware.”

Catch Josh on ITV X Sunday mornings at 11.30am.
