Coronavirus in Derbyshire: latest figures show rising number of infections in the county

The most accurate figures show that for the week up to October 16 the rate of new cases in every Derbyshire district, including the city, is more than 100 per 100,000 people.
This translates to 1,599 confirmed new cases of Covid-19 during the week October 10-16, up from 1,434, October 3 to 9.

Hide AdThis is more than the number of cases the entire county and city saw in September which was 1,387.
Case numbers are collected and released by the Government each day but are then still subject to checks and confirmation and are not considered 100 per cent accurate for several days.
Erewash and the High Peak have case rates of more than 200 per 100,000 people with 238 and 198 new confirmed infections in the week October 10 to 16.
This is the first time Erewash has been recorded as having a case rate of more than 200 per 100,000 people.

Hide AdIt is more accurate to track a case rate over the course of a seven days to account for day-to-day variances, with weekends typically seeing more new cases recorded.

Chesterfield, Erewash, North East Derbyshire and Glossopdale in the High Peak are currently under tier two restrictions which will be reassessed in the next month.
Derby, thought to be heading to tier two lockdown within the next week, has a case rate of 141 and saw 364 new cases in the week October 10-16.

Hide AdThis is more new cases than the city saw in the entire of September (342).
For comparison, the national average rate of infections is 96, with Erewash and the High Peak more than double this average.

Hide AdThe county as a whole, including Derby, is now seeing new case numbers approaching 300 each day.
Its highest accurate daily figure was 292 new cases on Monday, October 12, followed by 282 on October 14, and 272 on October 13.
