Edale Station Friends win RHS Silver Gilt
“Despite the hot, dry weather, Edale Station Friends have worked incredibly hard to keep the station welcoming, colourful and interesting for residents and visitors”
Edale Station Friends (ESF) have been awarded Silver Gilt by the RHS East Midlands branch of Britain in Bloom, after a judge visited the station unannounced in the summer.

Carol Jamieson, from ESF, said “We didn’t even know if they had been until we received the invitation asking us to attend the award ceremony!”
Jon Pearce MP said: “I use Edale Station regularly and I’m always amazed by the dedication and friendliness of the residents who give up their time to look after it. Despite the hot, dry weather, Edale Station Friends have worked incredibly hard to keep the station welcoming, colourful and interesting for residents and visitors. I want to personally thank everyone involved for everything they do.”

As well as their certificate, ESF received a comprehensive report from the judge who was impressed by the variety of flower and the scented shrubs, both on the platforms and at the access to the station.
She loved the planters donated by Breedon Cement Works, the Moors for the Future planters displaying moorland plants and the information boards which “bring a great sense of space to the station”.
She also acknowledged the contributions from the school children. In addition, the judge provided some useful tips on how to make the station even more attractive.
In response ESF have already started planning for some more drought resistant plants on the approaches and a compost bin for green waste. There will also be winter flowering plants and spring bulbs ensuring a cheery welcome whatever the season.
