Neo-rockabilly outfit turn up the volume on Halloween with spooky new release
A four-piece neo-rockabilly outfit with Derbyshire links are bringing vintage horror, werewolf howls and stomping rock ’n’ roll to Halloween with the release of their new video.
With Halloween creeping ever closer, Unlucky Strike – whose members hail from Ashbourne and the Staffordshire Moorlands – are turning up the volume on the spooky season with their new single ‘Cursed’, released on October 23.

A stomping rockabilly number with its fangs firmly in vintage B-movie horror, ‘Cursed’ is a full-throttle four-piece rock ’n’ roll outing fuelled by pounding rhythms, werewolf howls and the promise of silver bullets. Evoking the wonderfully lurid soundtracks of classic horror cinema, the track is made for moonlit dancefloors, things that go bump in the night and anyone who likes their rock ’n’ roll with a little menace.
Forget creeping around in the shadows. ‘Cursed’ brings the monster crashing through the door, delivering a raucous, tongue-in-cheek celebration of horror-film theatrics and raw rockabilly energy. With its wolfish flourishes and relentless rhythm, it offers the perfect soundtrack to the Halloween season.
The single sets the scene for the band's annual celebration of all things strange and spooky. Now in its fifth year, Welcome to Unluckyville promises a Halloween night inspired by classic horror, where nothing is quite as it seems. Is that a howl in the darkness, the wind through the trees, or something altogether more otherworldly?
Taking place at The Silk House, 64 St Edwards Street, Leek, the event gets underway on Saturday, October 31, with doors opening at 7.30pm and the show starting at 8.30pm. Classic horror attire is encouraged, though not compulsory, and there’s a prize for the best-dressed guest. Costumes, creatures and creepy characters are all welcome.
Unlucky Strike have built their own distinctive corner of the UK neo-rockabilly scene, combining the spirit of a timeless genre with a modern twist and a taste for the unusual. Formed around husband-and-wife duo Chris and Gemma Rushton, the band began building a following through livestream performances and energetic festival appearances, supporting The Hawkmen in 2021 and securing a UK tour slot with The Damn Truth in 2022. They have also shared stages with John Miller and his Country Casuals, John Lewis, Thomas Truax, and Jo Carley and the Old Dry Skulls.
Their 2023 debut album, Meanwhile, Back in the Lab…, showcased their flair for offbeat storytelling and retro-inspired sounds. The band expanded into a full four-piece lineup in 2024, with drummer Matt Ball and bassist Andrew Wakefield joining Chris and Gemma to bring added punch to their live performances.

With ‘Cursed’ leading the charge and Unluckyville ready to open its gates once more, Unlucky Strike are giving Halloween a suitably loud and gloriously twisted soundtrack. Whether you're a fan of rockabilly, classic horror or simply a good excuse to dress like the undead and hit the dancefloor, this October promises a date with the delightfully macabre.
