White puts in a great showing in Iceland

Buxton AC’s Rob White made the long journey to Iceland recently to compete in the Reykjavik Marathon, and posted an impressive tenth place finish.

White finished the course in an excellent time of two hours, 48 minutes and 20 seconds.

White’s achievement was made even more remarkable given he was competing in a sizeable field of over 850 athletes

Much closer to home, Simon Moorhouse took part in the ultra-distance event the Bullock Smithy, a 56-mile race which starts in Hazel Grove.

The route makes a tour of the Peak District before meandering back to Hazel Grove. Simon recorded his best-ever time for the distance, of 14 hours and 11 minutes.

On the roads, Mark Pursell ran the Wolverhampton Half Marathon recently in a creditable time of one hour, 27 minutes and 17 seconds, finishing in 31st position.

Steve Radcliffe and Hayley Errington, meanwhile, took part in the London (Run to the Beat) Half Marathon at the weekend, with Steve finishing in his personal best time of 1.52 and Hayley in 2.18.

At the shorter 10K distance at Wilne near Derby, three Buxton athletes competed, with Frank Golden leading them home in 47.05, followed by Bev Golden in 51.19 and Helen Brunt close behind in 51.56.

Buxton Juniors showed the seniors how it’s done at the Chesterfield Community 5K recently, with Elliot Meylan coming home in a personal best time of 19 minutes and eight seconds, and Jacob Buckley finishing in 20.28.

Seniors Roland Meylan, Angela Bent and Chris Bent recorded times of 21.24, 24.25 and 32.48 respectively.
