Buxton Hockey Club celebrate successful season

In a season where Buxton Hockey have established a fourth men's team, resurrected the ladies team after a 15 year absence and continued to look to the future with the junior players breaking into the men's teams, Buxton Hockey Club had plenty to celebrate.

On Saturday night they held their annual presentation evening where plenty of players got recognised not only for their performance on the pitch, but their contributions off it.

This is a club that prides itself on their teamwork and the many awards given out reflected this.

Each team awarded their player of the season voted for by the team; many awarded a junior player award to reflect the number of junior players now playing adult hockey and the captains also chose their player of the season.

These players went beyond what is required of a hockey player on the pitch to help support the team through the practical things such as driving to away matches to supporting at games when they were not playing.

First team captain Will Mather, who is stepping down from the role, also gave out several awards to reflect his six years as captain.

He is moving onto the role of club captain, supporting all the captains in the club and it will be his mentoring skills that others will be looking to draw on.
