A comparison of fixed-price pumpkins at nine supermarkets has revealed two surprise winners, while Sainsbury’s Nectar shoppers can pick up two medium pumpkins for £1.

If you’re heading out to pick up a pumpkin for Halloween, you might expect Aldi or Lidl to offer the cheapest prices.

But a comparison of nine major supermarkets has produced a surprise - Neither Aldi nor Lidl came top when researchers calculated the average price of the fixed-price pumpkins they found.

Instead, two supermarket rivals shared first place, with an average pumpkin price of £1.30 each.

One of them was Sainsbury’s, where the researchers found a medium pumpkin for just 59p. It's even cheaper if you've got a Nectar card, because the supermarket will sell you two for £1.

The other supermarket sharing the top spot was Tesco, which also had an average price of £1.30 across the pumpkins included in the comparison.

The research was carried out by finance experts at Fast Loan UK, who checked prices on October 7, 2026.

They looked at fixed-price pumpkin options at each supermarket and calculated an average for the products they recorded.

Pumpkin sizes and ranges do vary between supermarkets, so the average prices are not a direct comparison by weight, but at the time of the research, Sainsbury’s had a medium pumpkin for 59p and a large one for £2.

Tesco’s options were a small pumpkin for 59p and a large one for £2.

Aldi followed the two joint leaders, with an average price of £1.54 across the three sizes included in the research.

Its medium pumpkin was actually the cheapest individual pumpkin mentioned in the comparison, at 55p. Aldi’s large version was £1.69 and its extra-large pumpkin was £2.39.

Lidl came next with an average of £1.69, followed by Asda at £1.72 and Morrisons at £1.83. M&S had an average of £2, while Co-op’s was £2.50.

At the other end of the table was Waitrose, where the fixed-price pumpkins included in the research averaged £2.75. Its medium pumpkin was £2 and its large one was £3.50.

Waitrose also sold small pumpkins by weight, at £2.20 per kilogram, but these were excluded from the average because their final price varied.
