Buxton’s very own Iron Man Andy Baker and Jason Baird - known as Stockport Spider-Man - left youngsters’ mouths agape patrolling the suburb in aid of NHS staff and volunteers caring for coronavirus patients.

Father-of-two Andy, 41, told how on the day ‘kids swarmed Fairfield today looking for us and the main man - Jason’.

The crimefighting duo’s union unfolded after Marvel-mad dad Andy dropped into Fairfield last month raising awareness of the campaign started by Jason.

The costumed coronavirus crusader told how he was roused into action after seeing how Jason - dressed as Stockport Spider-Man - had raised thousands for the charity.

Jason - who had raised nearly £40,000 at the time of writing - has had his campaign backed by comedians Jason Manford and Keith Lemon.

Andy said: “It was surreal that the person who started all this joined us in Buxton.”

Speaking about his first appearance last month Andy said: “I have to say it was amazing - kids dressed up and waving with excitement and families walking around looking for Iron Man.

“I was nervous to start with and didn't know what reaction I would get but people were so friendly and it was lovely to see happy, smiley faces.”

Super dad Andy was first inspired to make his own Iron Man suit by his family’s love of Marvel.

He then went on to buy a more durable version - especially adapted to fit him.

Machine setter Andy told how until the NHS campaign he had only worn the suit once before ‘and that was for my son's birthday party’.

On Saturday July 27 Iron Man Andy is taking on a sponsored walk covering 10 lengths of Buxton’s Broad Walk starting at 1.30pm.
