JCB digger abandoned in the middle of the road on Woodhead Pass

In a bizarre scene the large excavator can be seen straddling the centre line of the busy route linking Derbyshire and South Yorkshire with Manchester.

While a police car sits with blue lights flashing beside traffic cones to warn oncoming drivers.

Police say it is unclear ‘how and why’ the heavy vehicle was left on the road - sometime overnight between Friday and Saturday.

However officers say enquiries are ongoing.

High Peak response tweeted (SIC): “Interesting morning on the #WoodheadPass for #HighPeak officers after someone abandoned their JCB in the middle of one of Derbyshires main roads.

“Eventually recovered and traffic moving again.”
