Don’t be left ‘gazanging’

The property world has invented another word to add to the English language... gazanging.

After gazumping and gazundering, gazanging is the latest buzz word, used to describe buyers “left hanging” by sellers withdrawing their homes from sale at the last minute.

With new research revealing an estimated 54,000 buyers had been “gazanged” in the first six months of this year, Taylor Wimpey is offering house hunters an easy way to side-step this hazard – by choosing a brand new home in the East Midlands.

Janet Robinson, regional sales manager for Taylor Wimpey, said: “After gazumping and gazundering, house hunters now have a new issue to deal with – the risk of being gazanged.

“Unfortunately, this is becoming increasingly common and could be down to a seller not finding a suitable property to move to, nervousness in the current climate, or the fact that they simply change their minds and choose to sit tight.

“By buying a new Taylor Wimpey home you can eliminate these risks as we’re not going to get cold feet or pull a property off the market once a deal has been agreed. If you’ve been gazumped or gazundered before then you’ll be aware of the hassle and heartbreak it can cause, so why not consider buying new and avoid becoming a victim of gazanging?”

The research, undertaken by online conveyancing firm In-Deed, also found that the number of buyers falling victim to gazanging has increased by 20 per cent in the first half of 2011, compared to the previous six months.

More than a quarter of sellers deciding to pull out of a deal because they couldn’t find a suitable home to move to, the study reveals, with market uncertainty and poor consumer confidence considered to have contributed to the increase in gazanging.
