Year group at Buxton Community School told to remain at home after confirmed coronavirus case

The news – which was revealed in a letter to parents – means all year 11 students are being directed to ‘remain at home’ until an expected return to the school on September 29.

The letter said: “We have been advised by Public Health England that there has been a single confirmed case of Covid-19 within the school community.

“We know that you may find this concerning but we are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England.

“As a precaution, we are directing all year 11 students to remain at home.

“We currently anticipate year 11 students should return to school from the morning of September 29.

“We will continue to discuss the situation with Public Health England and will update you if there are any changes to this timeframe and if any or all students are able to return earlier.

“I understand how anxious year 11 students will be to return to school and we are working to secure a safe return as soon as possible.

“The school remains open to all other students – including siblings of students in year 11 – and your child should continue to attend if they remain well.”

The letter said that work would be set remotely for the year 11 group from Tuesday.

It added: “As you can appreciate, there are some additional levels of staff absence at the moment.

“Please be assured that for most people, Covid-19 will be a mild illness.”
