Tribute to 80s supergroup The Traveling Wilburys

Perhaps the most famous supergroup of all time, the Traveling Wilburys, will be celebrated in a new show The Big O & The Wilburys Tribute, coming to Buxton Opera House in January.

The Traveling Wilburys formed in 1988 when George Harrison was hanging out in Bob Dylan’s studio and enlisted pals Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty and Roy Orbison to help with a B-side for his latest album. A band was born, with the five legends of the music industry creating a sound like no other – one that saw all five write, sing and play.

Sadly The Wilburys never actually went on tour, partly due to the untimely death of Roy Orbison.

The Big O and The Wilburys tribute recreates a piece of musical history that never actually happened, with top class musicians performing live as Dylan, Orbison, Petty, Lynne and Harrison.

A real up-tempo, feel good show, audiences are treated to a range of hits, not just from the Wilburys (Handle with Care, End of the Line, Tweeter and others), but also from the back catalogue of the famous five themselves.

The Big O and Wilburys Tribute Show is at Buxton Opera House on January 16 at 7.30pm. Tickets £18.50 to £22.50.
