Mike Payton lived and worked in central Mexico for a number of years, collecting folk tales along the way.

He will be sharing his selection of stories, entitled Bullfighting Widows and Haunted Cows, with the audience at Matlock Storytelling Cafe in the town’s Imperial Rooms on Friday, May 6.

Mike’s stories come from the small town of Milpa Alpa, which is renowned for its myths and legends.

They centre around the owner of cows which start talking to him at the slaughterhouse. Their tale leads him to discover devilish goings-on in the church - but what power does a simple labourer have when faced with such dark magic?

David Whittington wlll also be sharing stories on Friday - a triplet of tales entitled Life, Love and Lost Souls, with some personal reflections on the strangeness of life.

The storytelling starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced at £7, available by calling 01629 580023 or pay on the door.

Cakes and savoury snacks available. Bring your own bottle.
