World of sport: Speith halfway towards calendar slam, Murray is Queen’s King, Hamilton blames clutch and snooker misses Tokyo Olympic spot

American golf sensation Jordan Speith is halfway there, in his bid to achieve an historic calendar grand slam.

The youngster made it two majors out of two in 2015 on Sunday, adding the US Open to the Masters he won earlier in the year.

Victory came in a cruel fashion however, as Dustin Johnson three-putted on the last hole to let slip a glorious chance of winning a coveted major.

Speith, just 21 years of age, travels to St Andrews in Scotland next month, hoping to make it a straight hat-trick of major titles.

Andy Murray has joined an elite list of four-time Queen’s champions.

The Scot hoisted the Aegon Championships trophy after a 64-minute demolition of Kevin Anderson.

His name now sits alongside fellow four-time champions John McEnroe, Boris Becker, Leyton Hewitt and Andy Roddick, and the win gives him a timely pre-Wimbledon confidence lift.

Lewis Hamilton has blamed his clutch, after losing the Austrian GP to team-mate and rival Nico Rosberg.

Despite starting in pole position, the British driver was sluggish off the line and Rosberg managed to overtake before the first corner, before going on to dominate the race.

Hamilton said his clutch was ‘under performing’ on a regular basis and giving him poor starts to races.

And snooker has missed out on a place in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, with baseball/softball, bowling, karate, roller sports, sport climbing, squash, surfing and wushu all making the shortlist of potential additions to the Olympic sports.
