Frustrated Buxton threw away winning positions to suffer a couple of costly defeats in Division Five North of the Derbyshire County League over the weekend.

At Selston Town on Sunday, Buxton posted a formidable total of 223-8, with skipper Ian Betts top scoring on 60 and other valuable contributions coming from Harry Griffin (41), Andrew Slater (39) and Joel Frohwein (22). But in reply, Selston recovered from the loss of five early wickets to get home on 225-7, thanks chiefly to a superb, unbeaten 87 (two sixes and 13 fours) by their captain, Lee Harris.

Twenty-four hours earlier, Buxton had skittled top-of-the-table Riddings for just 128 after three-wicket hauls for Chris Simcox (3-7) and Frohwein (3-32). But they let it slip again, crumbling to 114 all out in reply, despite 37 from Griffin and 22 from Slater. Causing most of the damage for the visitors was Andrew Wilson with 5-26 from ten overs.

Buxton 3rd beat Staveley Welfare, with Jamie Dye scoring 72 and Dan Capell taking seven wickets.
