BREAKING: Ilkeston Town part ways with manager Martin McIntosh

McIntosh took over from previous boss Steve Chettle in September and helped maintain the club's position at the top of the Midland Football League Premier Division, which they lead by four points and with two games in hand on their closest rivals.

However, Saturday saw Ilkeston knocked out of the FA Vase by local rivals Eastwood CFC, who play a level lower than the Robins, and the club announced on Sunday night that they had mutually agreed that McIntosh would leave.

A club statement said: "Martin joined us with an impressive CV and many qualities we felt would really drive us forward. Results have kept us in a very good position, but there are many other elements to the role that have to be right.

“We had amicable, constructive dialogue this morning and agreed that Martin’s departure was in the best interest of both parties. Both Alan Hardy and myself would like to thank Martin for his contribution and he leaves the club with our very best wishes."

McIntosh said of his departure: "From the moment I arrived, everyone has welcomed me into the role. I feel we have achieved some positive results and over the course of the past 3 months I’m proud to have maintained our stranglehold at the top of the table.

“I’d like to thank the players, staff, supporters and everyone involved with the club during my time and wish everyone the best of luck in achieving promotion this season – I have every confidence that you will do so.”

First team coach Craig Swinscoe will take charge of the team while assistant manager Ian Deakin recovers from knee surgery, with Martin Lench assisting Swinscoe.
