Outlaw Nick proves to be Iron man
High Peak Tri club member Nick Doran recently completed his first triathlon when he competed in the Outlaw event in Nottingham.
Nick took on the daunting course that consisted of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride and a relentless 26.2-mile run.
Nick finished the T1 (swim) in 63 minutes and commented: “I was out into T1 in 63 minutes, which was slower than I’d hoped but still pleasing. I chose the wrong place to start and ended up swimming over people until about 500 metres in.”
Following the swim, Nick took to two wheels and says this was the most enjoyable part of the day.
He added: “The bike course was fantastic and by far the best part of the race.

“It felt good and I held on to it to come home in five hours and 24 minutes; an average of just under 21mph.”
In the final, and most energy-sapping part of the race, Nick says he “crawled home” just before the four-and-a-half hour mark.
His total time was 11:00:37, enough to ensure he finished in 77th place, when the teams are taken out.
