The photograph of the Buxton & District Junior League champions of that season was submitted by a member of that side, John Gregory, from Combs, who is pictured back row, second from the left.

As a lad, John, who attended Bath St Boys’ School in Bakewell, also turned out for the South Peak representative side.

At the time, they played their matches at Causeway Lane, now the home to Matlock Town.

Still cherishing the Buxton league medal he received, John recalls: “I didn’t really play much after the youth side because I was called up for national service.”

Also identified in the photograph are Alan Longden, Len Sellars, Denvil Cartledge, Terry Harrison, John Gregory, goalkeeper Tom Linson and manager Tom Rowe.
