Nominations now open for region’s sports awards

The sporting successes of school pupils and teams from across Derbyshire will be celebrated later this year at the 2014 Derbyshire Schools’ Sports Association (DSSA) Sports Awards.

The annual event, organised by the DSSA, recognises those who have excelled in school sport or sport outside of school.

Nominations are currently being sought from schools, sports associations and area associations, who are invited to put forward individuals and teams from primary, secondary and special schools in the following categories: Individual Achievement, Team Achievement, Young Leaders / Ambassadors, Adult Volunteer.

There is also a Special Award, for media and arts contribution to school sport, which recognises individuals and groups who have produced exceptional work such as photography, film, written reports, music or dance in relation to school sport.

In the Individual Achievement, Team Achievement and Young Leaders / Ambassadors categories awards will be divided into primary and secondary school categories, as well as a disability category.

Karen Shopland, chair of DSSA, said: “We have so much sporting talent within Derbyshire schools, in a wide range of sports, and the awards are a great way to celebrate these achievements.”

The closing date for nominations is 5pm on Monday June 30. Pupils attending any school within Derbyshire are eligible to be nominated.

Winners will be announced at a ceremony in September.
