Buxton sent six teams to the event, held at Berry Hill Park in Mansfield, and they had a fun-filled day challenging themselves in a highly competitive field.

“We are so proud of the juniors for stepping up to the mark in this national competition,” said Dowle. “Racing at this level is a daunting task. The event is huge, but they took it in their stride.

“They ran their hearts out, supported their teammates and really enjoyed the experience. We could not have asked any more of them.”

A staggering number of 1,273 teams from clubs across the country turned out for the championships at various age levels, including 133 in the U13 boys’ category, where Buxton A finished 78th and the B team 94th.

The U15 boys, made up of St Diamond, Ed Diamond and Sam Soles, battled hard to finish 44th of 138 teams, while two teams representing the club’s U15 girls came 69th (Ellie Wilson, Heather Wilshaw and Lucy Bednall) and 98th in a field of 129.

The U17 boys, comprising Joe Purvis, Luke Mamczur and Luke Farrant, also did themselves proud, finishing 55th out of 107 teams.
