The Buxton junior was given an immediate opportunity to press forward and land a heavy straight right against his opponents southpaw guard, a shot that continued to prove successful during the contest.

Thoreson controlled the first two rounds with a disciplined display of boxing, remaining calm under pressure, and working well at range.

With a Macclesfield opponent bravely pressing forward to land his own southpaw left, Thoreson stepped up in the third session and forcing the referee to interject twice following hurtful back hands on the way to a Buxton decision.

Thoreson will look to capitalise on a good performance in his next outing in late February.

Buxton’s youngest boxer, Keanan Bates, displayed continued development in his latest contest, a tactical bout in Nottingham.

In what proved a cagey affair throughout, Bates lost out on the first frame after a busy closing sprint by his opponent and went in to the second knowing a finely balanced bout would be decided by slim margins and small mistakes.

Bates took the third round after sharper, more aggressive work, but lost out on a decision after loosing the second.

Kelly Booth was poised to make her competitive debut after being an ever present fixture in the gym and was disappointed with a late cancellation.
