Horse-racing ‘Tip Of The Day’ — Tuesday January 8

As promised, TIP OF THE DAY regained the winning thread yesterday. Fittingly, it was the 100th selection of our resident tipster, Scoop Racing (Richard Silverwood), since he launched his service in September. His strike rate is currently running at a superb 32%, while no fewer than 67 of his fancies have finished in the first three. That all adds up to a healthy level-stakes profit.

SHANGANI

Chepstow 2.30 WIN

In-form trainer Venetia Williams has profited more than most from the prevailing soft and heavy ground this season, and could saddle another winner in this ordinary 2m handicap chase. Her seven-year-old gelding has been given a two-month break since his UK chasing debut when third in a decent contest at Warwick. But just a repeat of that performance, behind two useful novices, might well be enough on this first venture into handicap company, particularly as he has been handed an opening mark lower than his hurdles rating. He’s a son of former top Flat horse, Giant’s Causeway, but has been a sound jumper since gaining valuable experience of fences in France earlier in his career.

MONDAY: SOUND INVESTMENT WON (5/6)

TIP OF THE DAY IS SUPPLIED BY SCOOP RACING (RICHARD SILVERWOOD).
