High Peak AC youngsters round off memorable winter season

The club finished a highly respectable second overall, but the U13 boys and U15 boys were both crowned champions after performingly tirelessly throughout the competition. And a host of individual medals were also awarded to High Peak athletes who had set event records during the campaign.

The U13 team, which comprised Eddie Fenton, Byron Masterson, David Laver, Frankie Heathcote, Gregor McGill and Alex Needham, beat Amber Valley and Erewash Ac by a convincing 160 points.

The U15 team, which was made up of Elliott Archibald, Fraser Masterson, Isaac Quinn and Freddie Hatcher, were engaged in a closer-fought battle, but still triumphed by 47 points.

The nine individual medals were shared among Eddie Fenton (3), who broke records in the four-lap race, six-lap race and eight-lap parlauf, Elliott Archibald (2), for his efforts in the two-lap race and eight-lap parlauf, Fraser Masterson, Megan Harris-Wood (2), who starred in the four-lap and six-lap races, and Byron Masterson.

On the day itself, all the High Peak athletes competed with the same strength and determination they have shown in every round.

For the U11 girls, Freyer Hatcher won the one-lap race, while Eva-Jane Berry took third in the three-lap race and Courtney Limar was third in the speed bounce.

For the U13 boys, Byron Masterson and Eddie Fenton were the first two home in the two-lap race before setting a new record in the eight-lap parlauf, while second place was taken by Masterson in the shot and third places were achieved by Fenton in the standing long-jump and David Laver in the shot.

Katie Taylor won the shot for the U13 girls before teaming up with Megan Harris-Wood to come second in the eight-lap parlauf.

And the formidable Elliott Archibald bagged a hat-trick of wins for the U15 boys in the two-lap and four-lap races and also the standing long-jump. Fraser Masterson was second in the shot in the same age group, while Toby Stupples-Newton finished second in the speed bounce.

For the U15 girls, Sosseh Badje, Charlotte and Aimee Sweetmore and Sasha Scragg performed to their usual high standard and took second place in the relay race.

After producing such an amazing amount of effort and athletic ability throughout the winter season, High Peak are now looking forward to the Derbyshire Track and Field Mini-League, which gets under way in April.
