On the 18th – Lee Westwood calls on juniors to enter his 2015 Junior Championship

Now in its 18th year, the competition is expected to attract junior golfers from across the region to Worksop Golf Club on Monday 27th July.

The former world number one golfer is a big believer in competition, and is happy to lend his name to the tournament once again.

“The Lee Westwood Junior Championship 2015 will be another great event,” he said.

“And I’m proud to be associated with the top juniors from where I leanred to play, facing each other at an excellent course.”

“Competition is brilliant for these guys to take their game to the next level and I’m hoping they all have lots of fun at the same time.”

“I wish them all the best of luck.”

Golf manufacturer PING is once again sponsoring the event with some top prizes, and the scratch and stableford trophies will be up for grabs.

Secretary manager at Worksop Golf Club, Alan Mansbridge, encouraged juniors to get their names on the starting sheet.

“We look forward to this prestigious junior event each year as it attracts some of the best juniors from around the area,” he said.

“We are proud to support the event and would like to thank PING and Worksop Guardian for organising the event and the prize table.”

“I encourage all juniors to enter the competition, it is a super event played on a great golf course and for juniors it is one of the biggest competitions of the year in this area.”

Guardian sports editor Graham Smyth said the event was one of the biggest days of the year for the newspaper.

“The junior championship is always a highlight on the local sporting calendar, and never fails to deliver high quality golf from the best of the region’s talent,” he said.

“But it also gives the younger golfers who are just starting out in the sport the chance to play for great prizes, and experience a big tournament.”

“Hopefully the 18th championship will be the best yet, and we’ll be there to ensure the stand out performances are immortalised in print.”

Entries should be emailed to [email protected], with the subject header LWJC 2015, the golfer’s name, address, date of birth, handicap, golf club and a mobile phone number.

Cheques for £10, made payable to Johnston Press, should be posted to the Worksop Guardian, 21-27 Ryton Street, Worksop, S80 2AY with a note of the golfer’s name.

Golfers will not be entered into the competition until their entry fee has been received.

All entries should be in by 9am on Wednesday 15th July and tee times will be posted on the Guardian website a week later.
