McIntosh hopes Buxton fans will see real Ash Worsfold as striker scores in important win

The Bucks snapped their run of poor form with a 3-0 win at home to Grantham, and the performance of Worsfold was a real boost to boss McIntosh, just days after the sale of leading goalscorer Liam Hardy to Darlington.

McIntosh said: “Ash played his first game of the season on Saturday and scored our third goal, he was Man of the Match for me.

“He looked almost the player I signed, back to full fitness and if he can get a few games under his belt, everyone at the club will realise that’s the player we signed.”

It was Buxton’s first victory of 2016, at the ninth attempt, but the Scot insists there was never a crisis at the Silverlands.

“It was important, because we had quite a poor run of form, we had a lot of difficult away games against top six sides,” he said.

“We didn’t fare very well against them, and it was always going to be tough, getting back on track again.

“But we did that, and got a clean sheet, which was the first in a while.

“I believed in the players, there was no panic from me.

“I’ve still got good players and a good squad, albeit Liam has gone, and that’s going to weaken you for sure.”

Twelth-placed Buxton travel to Halesowen Town on Saturday, and although McIntosh wants the upturn in form to continue, he’s taking nothing for granted against the side in 15th place.

“It would be nice (to go and win) but any away game is difficult in this league,” he said.

“But if we do what we did on Saturday, we’ll be in with a good shout.”
