McGrath delighted as Buxton stop the rot with win

John McGrath was delighted to see his side get back to winning ways with a 2-1 success at high-flying AFC Fylde on Saturday.

Cian Coleman’s strike plus a terrific winner from Tate Campbell secured the points to end a run of four straight defeats for the Bucks.

And McGrath told the club’s media that the display his players put in warranted the three points gained.

He said: “I’ve maintained all along that if performances come then results will follow.

"If they’re not there, then you’re going to be a leveller for teams and dragged down to their standard. So today’s performance was really high energy and having worked on our shape this week I thought the back three were superb, as were the two wing-backs and we got it absolutely spot on.

"We could have been two or three up at half-time and made the better chances in the second-half, so to come away from home and break the run of four losses is good.

"I know I’ve got a great group and a great management team and great football club, and I knew today’s performance was coming but the manner in which it came was superb and I can’t really single anybody out.

"The starting eleven and even the five lads that came off the bench had a positive impact.

"We know how Fylde played and their style of play, and we knew they’d leave the middle of the pitch wide open for a counter attack, and we squandered a couple of good chances in both halves but I’m more pleased with the performance.

"Those travelling fans who went to Bedford and watched us last week at home to Southport will see we put a 90 minute performance together today, so they didn’t need a rollicking from me at half-time, the standards were set and the boys achieved those.”

Buxton were due back in action at King’s Lynn Town on Tuesday night, after this week’s Advertiser went to press.

They then host Merthyr Town in the league on Saturday, a week before their big FA Cup second round tie at Cheltenham Town.
