Late header rescues point for the Bucks in four-goal thriller

The clash between the two midtable teams survived a pre-match inspection after morning rain and after an exciting 90 minutes both sides were unhappy.

The Bucks were disappointed with their display, while the visitors were the better side but failed to take full advantage.

A missed penalty and good home defending eventually denied Coalville all three points.

The visitors, playing down the slope, started well with Creaney hitting the post in an early attack.

The striker and Watson then created a rapid counter-attack, forcing a corner and a scramble in the home penalty area.

Buxton responded with their best attack in the 21st minute.

A four-man passing move ended with a foul on Liam Hardy, who got up to convert the penalty.

The Bucks went close to doubling their lead when strikers Hardy and Wilson, the latter figuring in all Buxton’s best first-half attacks, combined for Wilson to send a deflected shot on to the bar.

Coalville’s accurate passing, however, dominated possession and after Jan Budtz made a fine save with his legs, the visitors also earned a spot-kick through a Ricky Ravenhill foul.

Creaney was again denied by the same post and also the keeper as the visitors continued to look more threatening.

Despite surviving those attacks, Buxton soon saw their lead wiped out at the start of the second period.

Creaney was fouled by Kern Miller for remarkably the game’s third penalty in the opening 50 minutes and this time Watson took responsibility from the spot and converted the kick.

Watson appeared to have completed Coalville’s recovery just after the hour when he ran through unchallenged after a mix-up in the home defence.

But McGee grabbed the late equaliser and Bradley Grayson then threatened an unlikely home winner.

He cut in and beat two defenders before testing the keeper with a 15-yard drive as Coalville hung on for a point at 2-2.
