Glossop North End reach DSC final after heavy win

Glossop North End booked their place in the final of the Derbyshire Senior Cup after a resounding 6-0 win at Borrowash Victoria on Wednesday night.

Chris Willcock’s side were three goals to the good at half-time and added another three after the break to ensure a meeting with Ilkeston in the final.

The Hillmen, winners of the competition in 2000-01, started strongly and won a penalty after a quarter of an hour. Sam Hare maintained his composure to slot home and open the scoring.

Prolific hitman Tom Bailey then made it 2-0 on 34 minutes before a screamer from Matty Russell arrived just before half-time.

With their place in the final virtually assured, Willcock’s men could have been forgiven for taking their foot off the gas.

However, North End took just eight minutes to make it 4-0 when Hare scored a spectacular goal.

The strike came minutes after the hosts had been reduced to ten men, with Tom Kellogg seeing a second yellow card.

With the man advantage GNE went on to add further strikes from Kyle Riley and Kelvin Lugsden as they romped to a resounding semi-final success.

The venue and date of the final has yet to be confirmed by the Derbyshire FA.

Glossop meanwhile will look to continue their outstanding form in the league on Saturday.

They host Colne defending an unbeaten run in all competitions that goes back to November 26.
