Dave Rowlinson, club chairman said: "Aside from providing a brilliant home for the football club and its members, the site will host a diverse mix of projects and activities delivered by the club and our partners.

"This is a project that will deliver significant benefits for the area, increasing access to many different and diverse opportunities, helping our community to get active with all the health and well-being benefits that goes with this.”

The project has now been tendered at a cost of £1.75m which is probably one of the largest ever investments made into sport in Glossopdale.

"This really is a once in a generation opportunity for people living and working in the town and the surrounding area. So far we have achieved 90 per cent of this figure,” he added.

The plan will be for the club site to serve the region with a community hub space, new changing rooms, 3G pitch and upgraded entrance with renovated grass pitches to follow.

Each of the teams will be tasked with raising funds for the site, with the wider community and businesses also being asked to help boost the coffers.

‘This year has been incredibly tough for us all and not having the usual activities and community get togethers has been a big blow.
