Evans looked set to be joining Sunderland from Reading this week but the move has stalled due to interest from the Rams, according to the Northern Echo.

The 23-year-old made 23 appearances for Reading last season, scoring two goals, and is said to be keen to remain in the Championship if he were to leave the Royals.

Evans began his career at Manchester City and was at the club at the same time as now Rams boss Frank Lampard, who had a season with the club during 2014/15.

Evans made one appearance for City, coming on as a late substitute for Yaya Toure in a comfortable 4-1 Capital One Cup win over Sunderland in September 2015.

He had loan spells at Crewe, Scunthorpe and Walsall before signing for Reading in January 2016.
