Buxton's winning start pleases Hayward

Buxton's winning start to the season has pleased boss Gary Hayward... because he won't have much time to work with his squad on the training ground.

The Bucks have kicked off their season in fine style, thrashing Belper Town 7-0 in the FA Cup's first qualifying round on Tuesday night after opening their Northern Premier League account with a 4-2 home win over Radcliffe Borough on Saturday.

And with match action coming thick and fast - Buxton will play five games between September 19 and October 3 - Hayward admits there is little time to work on tactics.

"There's still quite a bit to work on, but that will be a few weeks as we play Saturday-Tuesday," he said.

"Thursdays will be a bit of a light session or basically a massage session as the lads will be putting a lot in. On the whole, we can't ask more than winning games."

While Buxton have made a strong start to the campaign, some members of his newly-assembled squad are desperate to get more game time and be part of a winning side.

"I'm disappointed with some lads who we told week-in and week-out it's a squad game," he added. "One or two's already knocking on the door, asking 'why aren't I playing?' - which is annoying me a little bit.

"That's just how it goes."

Diego De Girolamo and James Walshaw netted hat-trick's on Tuesday night with James Hurst also on target.

Walshaw, Chris Dawson, De Girolamo and Connor O'Grady netted against Radcliffe.
