Buxton FC 'not out the woods yet' in fight to stay up, says boss Gary Hayward

The Bucks continued their fight to beat the drop with a deserving 2-0 win at promotion hopefuls Basford United on Saturday, thanks to goals from Warren Clarke and Diego De Girolamo.

That coupled with defeats for third-from-bottom Matlock Town at Hyde United on Saturday and Warrington Town on Tuesday has opened up a six-point gap to the relegation places for Buxton.

But Hayward, who will prepare his seven-game unbeaten squad for a trip to Warrington this Saturday, has warned the job to keep the Bucks up is far from finished.

"I don't really look at stats - I take each game as they come," he told the Advertiser.

"If we go unbeaten then that's one that people will tell me. I just take every game as it comes and set the team up how I want it to be.

"As long as we're working hard, sprinting and giving me a good shift then we'll get a result - if they listen to instructions.

"We're not out the woods yet. We're unbeaten in seven but we still need to win another three or four games to be safe. That's my priority."

First-half goals from Clarke and De Girolamo - the former Sheffield United forward's 27th of the season - were enough for the battling Bucks to seal three points in Nottingham over high-flying Basford.

"We were very good from start to finish," said Hayward.

"The lads dug in and stuck to the gameplan. Two-nil flattered Basford if I'm honest and we should have scored more.

"We dropped off a bit now and then - players kept hold of the ball longer than I would have liked - but on the whole, they did really well.

"I told them afterwards that we've got to keep it up now."

Hayward has no fresh injury concerns ahead of Saturday's trip to third-placed Warrington, who came from two-down with 15 minutes to go to beat Matlock 3-2 on Tuesday night.

"Warrington are a strong side, very powerful and good at home.

"It's not going to be an easy game on Saturday but I don't think there are any easy games in this league - if it's Stafford, South Shields or Warrington.

"Everyone is fighting and scrapping for points and we've got to be at it from minute one to minute 90.

"We're not frightened of anyone.

"Every game we go into we'll give it 150 per cent - supporters can't ask for any more," he added.
