The Bucks have brought in Gibraltar international striker Reece Styche and left winger Callum Powell from Yeovil.

And they have been joined by Spennymoor full-back Stephen Brogan, striker Khaellem Bailey-Nicholls, Grantham midfielder James Berrett and experienced centre-back Shane Killock, who has joined from Alfreton Town.

Hayward said the signings will give his side some options they were lacking during the last campaign.

“Last season we only had one striker and we needed a couple more attackers,” he said. “Callum is a direct fast winger and Styche is a prolific goalscorer in Conference North.

“He is very strong and powerful, he holds the ball up as well as getting the goals. We struggled last season when balls got chucked in the box, this season we will have a bit more firepower when aerial challenges come.”

And the ambitious Bucks are set to announce further signings, with Conference North quality players the target.

“I have kept the majority of the squad from our good run last season,” added Hayward.

“We are looking at a few more players. Every player will be Conference North standard.

“I go out and pick my players on what I need and work out how I do that.

“There will be new signings coming, we are going for it now.

“I have been working for the last 16 weeks, being on the phone constantly working on player deals.

“We are going to be competitive and that is all we can ask for. There are a lot of other good sides in the league who will be having a go, we are not going to win every game - it is about being competitive again.

“Let’s go and have a go. If we are up there at Christmas time we will strengthen further.”

The club have also been bolstered with the news that goalkeeper Grant Shelton has re-signed following an impressive debut season.
