Buxton 0-1 Stamford - match report

Ten-man Buxton missed the opportunity to go up to fifth in the table, as they suffered a late defeat at Stamford on Tuesday night.

Shawn Richards poked home the winner for the Lincolnshire outfit in stoppage time to end the Bucks’ unbeaten record away from the Silverlands.

Earlier in the evening, just before half-time, Leon Osbourne was sent off for an alleged two-footed challenge.

Up until that setback Martin McIntosh’s men had seemed the more likely to open the scoring with Matt Thornhill being denied by a fine save from the Stamford goalkeeper in a first half that was low on chances.

After the break, Buxton were always on the back-foot, despite the hosts having seldom efforts on Andy Warrington’s goal.

The veteran stopper was called into action to make one notable save halfway through the second period, denying a Stamford striker.

Then came the Bucks best chance of opening the scoring when substitute Kieran Lugsden was put through after good work from Craig King.

However, Lugsden’s snapshot went into the side netting and just minutes later up the other end came Richards’ cruel, late winner.
