The Bucks are gunning for promotion from the Northern Premier League with the gaffer keen to see a collective team spirit to help them on their way.

“It has got to be Team Buxton as a club,” he said. “From me and the chairman all the way down to the kit man, we are all the same.

“If a job needs doing, even if the toilets needed cleaning, I know if I asked the chairman he would go and do it because that's the kind of camaraderie we have got at our club.

“We have a good spirit around the club which is great to see.”

Buxton continued their build up to the new campaign with a 2-1 win at Nuneaton Borough,

And it was a win that left Hayward delighted with the progress being made.

“At 1-1, we just took hold of the game until half-time,” he said. “In the second half we got them in, organised them and that was it, we ran over the top of them and they couldn’t get the ball or in our half.

“They are easily a Southern Premier play-off team, they have got a big budget and good players, but it was just men against boys and they couldn’t get near us.

“I still had 4-5 players missing on Saturday and the squad was still really strong with excellent competition for places.

“We moved the ball really well and it was very pleasing on the eye.

"We created some really good chances and it’s a shame we didn’t score more.”

And Hayward says those issued chances highlight why Buxton need to add another striker to the ranks.

“We are missing too many chances and need to go get that striker in,” he said.

“Me and the chairman had a chat over the weekend about getting in a really top class striker.

“We have got irons in the fire, the squad is looking powerful and strong and I am really pleased with where we are.

“We are very fit, Nuneaton couldn't keep up with us. We are scared of nobody with the squad that we have.

"The squad need to show that quality. We have 34 weeks to get 60 games in so it is going to be a short busy season and we need a big squad to cope with that.”
