Cycling: Baldwin continues great form in hill-climbs

Buxton CC had six riders entered into the Rutland CC hill-climb up Mam Nick on Saturday, which rises from Barber Booth in the Edale valley to Rushup Edge above Chapel-en-le-Frith.

The club’s reputation as one of the best in the country at these short, sharp events was again confirmed by Lee Baldwin’s win in 6 minutes 47.7 seconds.

Baldwin beat Rutland CC’s Darren Otter (7:20.4) into second place by the massive margin of 32.7 seconds.

His dominant performance was backed up by fellow team members Chris Baines (4th in 7:27.7), Sam Clark (7th in 7:41.4), Stuart Baker (13th in 8:10.1), Sam Garner (21st in 8:43.7) and Jono Baines (29th in 9:43.9) in what was a fruitful day for the club.

• The hill-climb season continued on Sunday with another strong performance by Baldwin who was third in Lyme Racing Club’s Mow Cop event straddling the Cheshire/Staffordshire border.

In cold, wet conditions that saw many struggling to maintain rear wheel traction on the steep sections, Lee stormed up in a time of 4:35.9.

He finished a total of 13 seconds behind runaway winner Tejvan Pettinger (Sri Chimnoy Cycling Team) who posted a new course record.
