Palladino struck twice as Glamorgan lost three wickets in four overs to slide to 314 for 9 before Timm van der Gugten and Andrew Salter added 63 in 15 overs.

Van der Gugten twice dispatched Matt Critchley’s leg-spin for six, the second landing on the pavilion roof, and there were also four fours in his 36 which came off 48 balls.

After a brief rain delay, Derbyshire’s openers had a tricky four overs to negotiate before lunch but Ben Slater and Chesney Hughes survived with few alarms as the home side moved to 23 without loss, 354 runs behind.
