Chris Simcox took two early wickets and finished with four for 26, well supported by Tom Lisser, Nick Allen and Phil Slater.

With the pitch drying out Duffield had a few chances early on but Mike Kelly batted responsibly to score a match-winning 46 before being one of three run outs.

It was a satisfying victory to start the season.

Buxton 1sts were away at South Wingfield 2nds, but were let down by poor catching which allowed the home team to post a useful 153 for 6.

Buxton's reply was promising at 62 for 2 off 10 overs, but a lack of application by the lower order batsmen meant they fell short and were bowled out for a disappointing 110.

On Sunday Buxton 3rds were at home to Darley Dale 3rds on a lovely day with lots of spectators enjoying the Park.

Batting first the home team were bowled out for 69, only Chris Hazelhurst and Dave Robins offering gritty resistance.

Junior Joe Bagshaw bowled well to take an early wicket and, when the Darley captain was run out by a superb pick up and throw by Reuben Lewis, Buxton scented victory.

But the bowling was too wayward to build pressure and Darley won comfortably in the end.
