Derbyshire's batsmen prospered on another bitterly cold morning against Glamorgan at Derby with both Ben Slater and Wayne Madsen completing half centuries.

Glamorgan’s bowlers, with the exception of Michael Hogan, could not find a consistent line in the biting wind and occasional flurries of snow as the third wicket pair took their stand to 103 before they were parted.

Slater reached his third consecutive fifty at Derby after he signed off last season with two in the match against Leicestershire from 110 balls but then went back and across to the spin of Andrew Salter and was lbw for 62.

Madsen followed his 150 at Bristol last week with another accomplished innings and was unbeaten on 77 at lunch although Neil Broom fell just before the interval when he was bowled playing no shot at Timm van der Gugten to leave Derbyshire on 189 for 4.
