Buxton collapse chasing tiny total

Buxton's opening bowlers Harry Griffin and Andrew Slater bowled well on a helpful wicket to take five wickets between them.

Fran Slater once again bowled tightly and took four wickets to dismiss Hollinsend for 80.

Clear thinking and disciplined batting were needed but Buxton surrendered their wickets too easily and Buxton lost a game they should have won.

At the Park Quarndon III batted first against Buxton II and were soon 2 for 2 as Nick Allen and Tom Lisser made early breakthroughs.

Once a partnership of 79 runs had been broken Quarndon collapsed to the flight and spin of Phil Slater who ended with 5 for 23.

Chasing 123 against a good attack Buxton were indebted to skipper Dave Belfield (34) and Man-of-the-Match Slater with 26 as they won by three wickets.

At the Park on Sunday Buxton III batted first against Clowne Town III.

Juniors Joe Bagshaw and Leon Brower opened superbly with a partnership of 60 and a hard-hitting 79 from father Derek Brower saw Buxton to 191 for 4 off 40 overs.

Clowne fell short at 158 for 9 with Jamie Day taking dour wickets for 32 and Bagshaw 3 for 16 in a pleasing performance.

Buxton's junior section is thriving, but is always looking for new players - boys and girls.

Last week the U11 Hardballers won by 20 runs against Ashover Barbarians, while the u11 Incrediballers lost to Alfreton The U15s tied with Matlock.
