Alasdair Campbell wins as Buxton dominate Taddington Lanes race

Alasdair Campbell was victorious for Buxton during the recent Taddington Lanes 4 mile race.

The race was the 14th in the 2016 Club Championship and saw 50 Buxton athletes cross the line out of 86 finishers.

The club also filled eight of the first 10 places and the entire top six.

Campbell won in 22:40, over a minute clear of second placed Jake Fearn in 23:44, with Rob White third in 24:01. White also picked up the 1st M40 prize.

In the women’s race, Jo Bednall took the win in 28:13 with Sheila Bradley third overall and also taking the 1st F50 prize in 32:56.

Annabelle Mottram had an excellent race finishing as Buxton AC’s third Lady in 33:44 taking fourth place overall and 8 points in the Club Championships.

Other Buxton prize winners included Elliot Meylan, first Junior Male in 24:30 and Tiffany Bramwell, first Junior Female in 43:41.

In complete contrast, Ben Light was the sole Buxton AC runner in the Mid Cheshire 5K last Thursday.

It was a highly fruitful journey over to Kingsley for Light though as he edged under the 17-minute barrier for the first time, setting a new personal best of 16:55.

On Sunday, 10K seemed to be the distance to race, with Buxton AC fielding runners in four separate 10K races on the roads and one over the fells.

At the fast and flat Wilne 10K, Rob White was first to finish, setting a season’s best of 34:11.

Three runners also set new PBs: Rick Aldred in 38:32, Andy Lidstone in 40:18 and Richard Goff in 45:29.

At the Spitfire 10K it was PBs all around for the four Buxton entrants: Richard Bouglas shaved a few seconds off his previous best finishing in 39:03, while Annabelle Mottram took a massive five minutes of hers in 51:40. Gemma Clarke and Julie Knox finished together in 78:39.

Over in Salford, Paul Wardman and Louise Morten also both set new PBs of 44:50 and 48:45 respectively, while down in London at the Regents park 10K, Mandy Bromley completed her first ever 10K in a highly respectable 62:34.

Finally, over nearly 10K on the hills near Glossop, six Buxton runners trod a significantly harder path, battling fog and peat bog at the Shelf Moor Fell Race, the final counter in the Club Fell Championships.

Alasdair Campbell finished second overall in 45:57 to clinch his first Male Fell Championship title, and Jo Bednall was third female finisher in 62:07, sealing the Female Fell Championship title for the third consecutive year.

Elliot Meylan had another storming run to claim the first U23 prize in 53:41 with Roly Meylan (60:55), Pete Bailey (61:37) and Elizabeth Nocton (76:35) completing the Buxton line-up.
