Work begins on homes at £300m Waterside development

Thirteen affordable houses will make up the first residential properties on the 60-acre Waterside site, and are expected to be inhabited by the end of the year.

Ian Limb, project manager for Bolsterstone, who are overseeing the development, said: “The Waterside development means everything for Chesterfield.

“These houses mark the first stage of building in this development, which is Chesterfield’s largest mix-use development scheme and the 47th largest regeneration scheme in the country.”

The thirteen houses will be made up of eight two-bed apartments, six two-bed houses and five one-bed houses at the site on Brimington Road.

To be known as The Park, the area will feature sustainable housing in a parkland setting along the waterside.

More than 300 private homes are also planned for the site, straddling the River Rother and Chesterfield Canal and alongside the A61, with work expected to start later this year alongside work on the commercial aspects of the development.

The scheme has remained a key development for Chesterfield and is already considered an exciting example of best practice regeneration taking a largely vacant area centre and creating a vibrant new environment of buildings and open spaces. Its announcement last year as one of the UK’s largest Regeneration and Renewal schemes brought Chesterfield to the attention of national investors in 2013. It’s very positive that the development is moving forward and yet another boost for the town.”
