A fresh weather warning has been issued for ice across parts of Derbyshire as temperatures are set to plummet to freezing.

The Met Office has issued the warning from 7pm tonight, January 27, until 10am tomorrow, affecting commuters on the way into work in the morning.

A 1,200-mile 'tongue of ice' will blow in from Canada, which could cause temperatures to drop to -10C in some parts of the country.

Forecasters are predicting icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths, making injuries or accidents more likely.

Showers of rain, hail and sleet are likely on Monday night and Tuesday morning, leading to a risk of ice on some surfaces as temperatures fall below freezing. Some snow is also possible.

A yellow warning for ice has also been put in place for parts of Lancashire and South Yorkshire.
